PRODUCING

Producing is guiding the Artist through the various phases of the recording process. A Producer may help solidify a song arrangement, select the proper studio musicians, make sure the Artist is comfortable and "at ease" in the studio. Getting the best arrangement and recording of a song, and making the Artist happy is what I take pride in as a Producer.

RECORDING

Recording has come a long way since "direct to vinyl" back in the 1940's. Today, almost every studio (and home studio) uses computers to record digitally. I started recording audio, overdubbing, and mixing when I was 12 years old with two cassette tape decks. I have recorded over 40 albums from all styles of music. Maybe you're next to record at defMEDIA?

EDITING

Editing in the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is pretty cool. I must say, I love editing! What is editing? Well, things like changing the arrangement or tempo of a song AFTER it has been recorded, removing lip smacking and heavy breaths from singers tracks. Fixing a bad bass note. Editing multiple drum tracks to "feel" right. It's amazing to hear "before and after" versions of songs. The "after" version usually sound tighter and cleaner but still has "the feel."

MIXING

One of my favorite jobs is mixing an album that I didn't record or have even heard before. I have several clients out of state that send me their tracks and I mix them. To me, mixing is mostly about tones and frequencies in the recorded tracks that sound pleasing to your ears (or NOT). Adding dynamics and space to different aspects of a song is part of it also. Mixing a song can take a couple of hours or weeks depending on the material. When it is done... boy does that sound sweet to the ear!

MASTERING

Mastering is the process of making your song or album sound as professional as possible. A collection of songs must flow from one to another without any strange things catching your ear. I use very sophisticated software to Master my clients' works. Below are some of my clients.

SOUND DESIGN

Sound design is the process of specifying, acquiring, manipulating or generating audio elements. It is employed in a variety of disciplines including filmmaking, television production, theatre, sound recording and reproduction, live performance, sound art, post-production, radio, and video game software development. Okay, I lifted that from Wikipedia. But, now you know.
